The First Festival Favorite!
Commissioned for the 1988 for the Oregon Children’s Choral Festival, Our World is The Festival Favorite that started it all!
In the winter of 1987, Dr. Randy Moore commissioned Jennifer and I to compose a children’s choral piece for the Oregon Children’s Choral Festival in Eugene Oregon. Held at the world class performance hall, the Hult Center Silva Concert Hall and attended by over 2,200 3rd through 8th grade singers from all over the state of Oregon, we wanted to provide a song that would bring a powerful message, with meaningful lyrics and a beautiful melody, while at the same time be easy enough for younger singers to learn and older singers to love to sing. As our first commission, we wanted it to be something contemporary, yet timeless and to provide a message not only to choristers, but especially to their adult audiences.
From this came Our World. A song that put in words and melody, the hopes and dreams of every child, every parent and every person, the idealistic, but perhaps reachable goal of creating a better world for our children, and our children’s children to thrive in. Not just our children, but all children. A world full of peace, where people from all places, and all faces come to together and love each other, care for each other and all work to make a more perfect world.
2200 Young Singers Can’t Be Wrong!
The first hit from Aardvark Hill that your choir will love to sing and your audiences will love to hear! A Festival Favorite series song, River Run is that rare gem of a song that combines beautiful, moving melodies with rich and emotional lyrics to engage singers and audiences in an emotional and meaningful experience.
- Kids love Our World because it gives words and beautiful melodies to big ideas that they are just beginning to become aware of.
- Directors love Our World because it provides fun, contemporary music that their kids want to sing, along with great music and lyrics with depth and meaning.
- Audiences love Our World because it brings them closer to the people in their lives when they hear it and it’s so easy to learn that many people will be humming along before the performance is over! And its’ so catchy that everyone will be singing it on the way out the door!
So many children’s choral pieces are “lyric light”, meaning they have pretty melodies that lift up lyrics that have little meaning or meat to offer. Our World is filled with a deep layers of rich metaphor for your kids to explore and grab onto. It’s idea and lyric heavy. Enough that you can, and we hope you will, spend time in rehearsal digging around to uncover some of the many metaphors and threads of meaning flowing through its, simple, beautiful melodies.
- Piano accompaniment tracks will be available soon!

Our World
Bruce & Jennifer Searl
Can you see a world made for children to live?
People asking not what to take, but to give
Can you see, can you feel, reaching for this dream
Far off in a land, not so far as it seems
There will be a place, so much peace I could bring
Give your heart, give your all that you can bring
Our world will be something new
Where hope is alive and our dreams can come true
Our world is made up of love
A world just right for you
Will you take my hand (oooh), help my dreams come true? (oooh)
Will you teach me truth (oooh) in everything you do?
Will you guide my way (show the way), promise you will stay (please say you’ll stay)
Always by my side
We can never make it without you
Now has come the day of the lion and the lamb
Safely we will play with the beasts of the land
Running ‘round, hear the sound, love is here to stay
