The Story Behind Watchin’ Over Me

Watchin’ Over Me was composed as part of children’s musical "<strong><em>Answering the Call but it was inspired by some friends in our church who were involved in a tragic car accident the day before we wrote it. The accident took the life of one high school girl’s mother, Sue Bressi, and seriously injured her sister Katie and her friend, Holly Stout. Holly suffered severe head trauma and was in a coma in ICU for over a month. She was not expected to live. Her doctors believed that even if she did live, she would be severely brain damaged.

But God watches over us! Some of the ladies who were with her constantly during the weeks of her coma, sang this song to her over and over again. (Jennifer had previously shared it at an evening service.) When Holly finally awoke from her coma, she was barely able to whisper “daddy” to her father. But the next time someone came to sing at her bed side (despite having never consciously heard the song before), she knew it and sang along with Watchin’ Over Me. Around our church, it become known as “Holly’s song.”

Watchin’ Over Me took on even broader local relevance due to the the tragic events at one of our local high schools, Thurston High, in Springfield OR., which occurred a couple of days after it was written. Watchin’ Over Me brings great comfort to many people of all ages by reminding us all of His deep and close attention to our every situation and need, and His promise to be near us always.

This is now my favorite worship CD!
I play it all the time and absolutely LOVE the songs on it! Each one feels like it was written just for me!
